Weight training (especially free weights) and chin ups would simply compliment each other. so you would reach a goal of both faster. The thing about progressing is to really push your self at the end when you think you can't do another one because it hurts.... then do another 2!! Then wait 1 min and start again, do this 4 times (4 sets).... Then leave your muscles to repair and do it again in 48 hours.
