Does studying philosophy make you a better scientist, engineer or mathematician?

Sometimes when I study science or math, my philosophical thinking kicks in, and then I say to myself: hmmmm, that doesn't make any sense. Does my philosophical thinking hinder my ability to learn science or math or am I just using my critical thinking to question the validity of what science and math are trying to teach me?
