How to recover from this running injury?

I am currently suffering from a running injury, and am getting better at the moment. What I am currently worried about is recovery. I am on a high school team and it is very competitive. Before this injury I was one of the top runners, and now that I have gotten worse due to my injury, a lot of the people on my team have gotten better at the same time. So basically, once I start running again, I want to know if there is any way I could catch up to them again. I don't want to be an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object, in other words, while I get better, they also get better, therefore there is no change. Any tips?
